The Oxford dictionary states that tradition is the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation or a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another. Other words that can be used are: customs, observance, habit, practice, or way. Most traditions have been passed down from generations so far removed, no one knows how or why they got started, but they continue to follow them. Or, we feel the need to start new ones that can journey throughout the generations to come. Traditions can be about anything. It can be about the way we cook. Or, it can be about the way we relax and unwind. Vacations are wonderful ways to start new, memory filled family traditions.
For families and friends, getting away at least once a year is an event that brings joy and happiness to all. Some change locations each year, while others choose to return to the same destination year in and year out. Either way, it is about coming together to enjoy the fellowship and activities with loved ones. Getting away from the hustle and bustle; truly immersing one’s self in the tradition of togetherness. Or, for some, they must immerse themselves in the solitude of their own company in a place that brings peace and relaxation. Vacations are traditions that can be passed down through the generations.
Personal Family Tradition At Rileys Outfitters
“As a family, we had never been out of our home state with our children. One year we decided it was time to start traveling to other states. To Google I went and I put in “white water rafting”. Arkansas was the first state to pop up and it narrowed down to vacation spots on the White River. The finalists were neighboring resorts. One had a pool and the others didn’t. The decision was made that we could get a pool at home and the decision was made – we were going straight river water experiences. So, Rileys Outfitter won the bid for our family vacation. And, unbeknownst to us, a new family tradition was about to begin. Rileys Outfitter became the vacation destination each year after that. And, within that tradition, several other traditions were built. From letting out a hardy “AAAAAA” when we went through Yellville to calling out “FISH ON!” with each new catch. We loved learning to fish for trout on the White River, catching smallmouth bass on the Buffalo River, and getting to know the Rileys. From swimming and kayaking, enjoying the local eateries in Mountain Home and Norfork, our family bonded through the fun and memories. Rileys Outfitter has never disappointed – the tradition goes on!”
